What is counselling

Counselling is a Journey

It comes under the umbrella of Talking therapies.

Simply put this is where you are given time, space, and attention to share what is going on in your inner world, which may or may not be affected by your outer world.

For many, this can be a huge relief to talk about the things that are worrying.

What can you talk about?

The truth is you can talk about anything you like.

Some people think that your life has to be hanging on by a thread to go to counselling but sometimes it can be helpful to talk about the jumbled mess of your thoughts, to get clarity. But if you are hanging on by a thread then this is also a great place for you to come.

Topics such as hopes, dreams, fears, anxiety, disappointments, grief, loss, hurts, shame, childhood issues, difficult conversations, relationships, perceived failures as a parent, or your most recent date.

One client said,

"What I loved about Counselling is that there was no judgement, I didn't feel stupid or made to feel awkward. I was held and acknowledged. I felt seen."

Counselling is a great way to enhance your self-awareness. This is important because there is often time that we act and react out of our instincts or behavioural patterns that have been developed through time and experience. Sometimes because our experiences have not been good we react from a defensive stance and so therefore our reactions are not the best. This may look like aggression or avoidance. We realise this but we don't know how to change. Sometimes we don't even know what we have done to make these difficult situations happen. But happen they do. Then we can live in difficult patterns of behaviour which can get us into trouble or just make us feel miserable.

However, we do not have to live this way.

Counselling is an opportunity and a safe space to explore some of the things that might be troubling you. They could range from things like feelings of grief and loss, behaviours such as why we act and react in certain ways, it could be a desire to move on from certain things to name but a few.

Then help you find a way that is useful and helpful to yourself to change and have a more satisfying life.
